People keep inventing or stealing ideologies, stances, philosophies, to justify their own bullshit.
Confronted by the horror of white privilege that has elevated them to their every opportunity, they invent libertarianism and BAM! they’re the products of their own fucking genius, light-out-the-arse and all.
Faced with the sexism inherant in wages, in maternal and healthcare, in the very fiber of the paper that keeps the corporations on their feet, they find they are suddenly victims of a grand conspiracy, so they fight for men’s rights and BOOM! they’re suddenly heroes of the real oppressed classes.
On and on it goes. Hate gays? You get to be a family rights activist! Xenophobic fuckhead (perhaps with a loathing of the smell of curry)? You’re merely ‘concerned about issues of integration’!
The modern vernacular is full of ways to make sure bigots, idiots and self-righteous arsewipes can get away with murder and not feel bad about it, because democracy and a free press means yelling loud enough legitimises you, and making sure you yell vaguely at power makes you a political force.
I don’t even know why I’m angry about this now. I just am. Banality of evil doesn’t cover it, it’s more like I don’t understand why I have to be honest about why I believe, and say I think things need to change, but reactionaries are allowed to pretend that they’re innocent fucking pricks.
